Too many variables

On this blog, I really try not to mention a problem unless I have a solution.

Sometimes life makes it interesting.

Supposedly my slow and only sometimes reliable internet is coming to an end. Another company will be the new cable and internet provider soon. The existing service has become less reliable because that company is going to be gone in a month or so. They've no incentive to keep customers.

Meanwhile, my main wireless router, an older Apple Airport Extreme, is intermittently failing, I moved an Airport Express next to the modem and I have been using it for the last few days.. But it may be failing too. It's about the same age as the Extreme. I've ordered a new Airport Express, I don't need to run an extra drive or two through the Airport. It's a slow connection for one thing.

There have been times that I know the usage is down, but I still get YouTube stalling. Like 3:12 a.m. on a Sunday morning.

I can't tell if it's the Airport Express failing or if it's the lousy internet service. Too many variables.

Restarting my iPod or the Apple TV seems to fix the stalls for a day or so. There's still no way to tell where the problem is.

It's a holiday weekend. That may mean higher than normal internet traffic.

Argghh.
