Master your keys
Somehow with the jobs over the years, I always ended up carrying a batch of keys. Even when I had an office, I knew the keys were more secure with me than in a desk drawer.
I must of tried them all over the years, the leather snap hooks, the metal holder, the zirp-zirp retractable holder. None of them held up for more than a year at a time. Until I found the ultimate key holder. If you want to skip the middleman, go for Doherty Keyholders. This thing is stainless steel and constructed exactly like the old style seatbelt buckle. It’s the best I’ve ever had.
But that is only part of my system. I also use these quick release key rings by Photon. I love the idea, but the actual key ring part is not great. Fortunately a trip to my local hardware store gets some decent small split ring key rings.
If you look at the picture of the key holder, you’ll see there are three places to snap key rings too. I’ve found that it works better to use the quick release key rings on the outer holes for the things I connect and disconnect all the time like car keys. The center hole works best to hold the keys you don’t disconnect all the time.
Be sure to make your car key ring so it can disconnect easily. You don’t want all those keys hanging off your ignition, it can pop it right out of the steering column.
