Palm TX software - Phone lookup programs

As I have been looking at software for my new Palm, one of the things that has struck me is how information that is free or at a small cost on the internet proper requires extra cash on a PDA or mobile phone. Nowhere is that more obvious than in programs that do reverse phone look-up.

Probably the leader in this category on the Palm Platform is Handmark's Pocket Express, which delivers news, sports, weather and information at $6.90 a month or $69 a year. Handmark offers the program free but sucks you into the subscription.

One of the reasons I didn't get a Treo is because I have a hard time justifying the $40 a month for someone like me who doesn't like phones, much less another $40 to $100 a month Verizon charges to get internet access with a Treo.

And now $70 a year for a service that I may use three or four times a month? I don't think so.

Fortunately there are alternatives. I don't mind paying a modest upfront fee for a program, so I will probably go with Directory Assistant and pay $13 or so in a donation. I'd go with his $10 suggested donation, but that wouldn't mess with his head enough.

Anyway, this program has what I am looking for, namely the ability to look up and add it to the Address book. I'm not thrilled with the MapQuest call, in my experience MapQuest is not particularly accurate in rural areas, but it is a good starting point.
