Smarts


When people talk about smart cars, they don't think about the psychology. Most folks don't want a car capable of discussing the news events of the day.

This is a new category. I don't list specific and existing gadgets here, I just talk about the way I see technology going. More my personal notes than anything else.

Artificial intelligence has huge potential, particularly with cars. But the interface is all wrong.

I think cars should have the intelligence and personality of a large, friendly dog.

Think about it, you come out of the grocery store. You whistle. Up comes your car, driving itself. It pops the trunk, you put the groceries in, and then hop in yourself. You say "good car," and it drives home happily.

When you have ultra-recognizable voices spelling out exactly what is wrong, people feel a little threatened. Who is this voice and what does it want? Subconsciously we think it's another person in MY space.

But it is hard to go wrong with a well trained dog.
